Interview with Buyantogtokh, full-stack developer at erxes

Today we interviewed one of our developers Buyantogtokh for our newly added Employee Blog section. He has been with us since 2015 and we sat down with him to discuss what it’s like working here at erxes.

What do you do at erxes? What does it entail?

I work as a back-end developer and my main focus is operations problems on erxes.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of my talented colleagues who are proving to the world that Mongolians can be strong contenders as software developers.

What are some things you have learned at erxes?

Everything that I know now about web application development.

What do you like most about erxes as an organization?

We are pretty open-minded here. I also appreciate the flex time.

What do you like most about erxes as a product/service?

Two things come to my mind. First, the fact that it is open-source, meaning the source code is freely available. It enables clients to download it and to make their own modifications. So, they can develop it according to their needs.

Secondly, I admire the emphasis it puts on customers’ needs and delivers the project in a timely manner. Even though, sometimes it means putting our own product development on the back burner.

What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on here at erxes?

That would be the user activity log section. The purpose was to record and document users’ activities made while using the program. It is useful in cases where a client would approach us when something malfunctions and they were unsure what they added, edited or deleted. So, in those cases, we would be able to show the activity log and explain what went wrong. Also, this log is recorded on a separate database. It means if the main database is somehow deleted, we would be able to restore things from the activity logs.

What are the most important qualities for your team at erxes?

  • Integrity and openness
  • Willingness to find long-term and sustainable solutions instead of band-aid fixes
  • Willingness to fix your own mistakes

Please tell us some random facts about yourself?

I consider myself pretty decent at sports and I am a bit of a perfectionist, in general.
